Maker of the month / Little Blue Heart

Maker of the month in July is Rachael from Little Blue Heart Makes. Rachael creates cards and artwork using sea glass and fragments of pottery that she collects from the beaches of Portishead.

Having grown up in the town, she moved away briefly but has since returned, realising that Portishead is the best place to be. “I love that my life has gone full circle and now my children get to grow up in the same wonderful town that I did!”.

Foraging for treasures on the local beaches with her three children quickly spiralled into something of an addiction. Rachael says, “As the house began to fill up with jars of sea glass and pottery, I needed to start making things with it or I would soon run out of room!”

“Finding fragments on the beach - a blue and white piece of patterned china or part of a makers mark gives a glimpse into its past and each one has a story to tell. Using individual pieces to create a picture of a teapot or a tea cup is so satisfying. Those fragments have come full circle, back to where they belong - just like me.”
